Current insights, practical case examples, and international expert opinions on acute urological emergencies. This article covers modern treatment approaches and clinical decision-making for everyday practice.
Two decades have passed since the first edition of Emergencies in Urology was drafted, addressing a critical gap in clinical literature. With over 250,000 copies sold, the book has received widespread recognition and valuable feedback from the scientific community, ultimately encouraging the publisher to proceed to the second edition.
During these past 20 years, medical knowledge, technologies, treatment strategies, and the personal expertise of the authors have evolved significantly.
The second edition of Emergencies in Urology reflects these advancements. Offering a comprehensive revision that integrates updated guidelines, new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and expanded topics. While broadening its scope, it continues to provide clear decision-making pathways for managing urological emergencies.
In this context, Emergencies in Urology 2.0 upholds the benchmarks of clarity, practicality, and accessibility. Detailed illustrations, didactic algorithms, and structured clinical pathways have been refined to enhance comprehension and practical application.
The highly valued case vignettes from the first edition have been further expanded, strengthening the connection between theory and clinical practice. The editors extend their deepest gratitude to the outstanding team of interna tional authors who have contributed their expertise, time, and dedication to this project. Their work represents an exceptional expression of global collaboration in our specialty of urology.
Some of our colleagues and friends, who participated as authors of the first edition, have passed away since 2007. With their obituaries, we honor their invaluable contributions to Emergencies in Urology and to the field of Urology as a whole, keeping their memories alive for the next generations of young urologists to come. A special acknowledgment goes to our desk editor, Meike Stoeck. With her friendly, highly competent, and efficient academic professionalism, she has once again orchestrated the intricate network of communications and actions between authors, editors, and the publisher. Her sustainable commitment has been instrumental in making this second edition a reality.
